Irish website seeks ten garden owners to open growing space

Homegrown.ie is recruiting its first ten suitable hosts: adults and organisations with a spare garden corner or piece of land that could be offered to a nearby grower under a direct seasonal licence.

The self-funded Irish commercial pilot has recorded substantially more grower interest than offered space. Its initial review counted 59 deduplicated grower enquiries, three space offers and zero claimed matches. Those figures are operational pilot evidence, not a national survey.

Homegrown is initially prioritising city and suburban gardens and accessible commuter areas because a small plot near someone's home may be more practical than a larger rural site.

“Ireland does not lack people who want to grow. The immediate shortage is nearby, usable space. Homegrown is asking people with a spare garden corner to consider starting with one adult grower and one clearly agreed season.”
— Brian, operator of Homegrown.ie

How the pilot works

  • Hosts advertise an approximate area; exact addresses remain private.
  • The host chooses the person, plot-use fee, season and rules.
  • Homegrown shares contact details only after both adults approve a specific proposed introduction.
  • Host and grower make a direct personal, seasonal plot licence and pay each other directly.
  • Pilot listings are free. Homegrown does not currently take rent, deposits or commission.

What Homegrown is trying to establish

The first goal is deliberately small: recruit ten suitable hosts, learn what prevents or enables listings, and determine whether local garden space can complement council allotments and independent community-growing initiatives.

Homegrown does not claim affiliation with councils or independent gardening organisations unless a relationship is expressly confirmed in writing.

Founder

Homegrown.ie is operated by Brian as a self-funded Irish commercial pilot. It began as a practical test of whether clear local demand could be connected with unused growing space. See the full About page.

Suggested factual description
